Pope Celebrates Palm Sunday in Rome

Rome, 25 March 2018: On Sunday, Pope Francis celebrated the Solemn Mass for Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion with a huge crowd from all over the world.

Saint Peter's Square was decorated with palms and olive trees for the annual commemoration of Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. Pope Francis celebrated the Solemn Mass, which began with a procession that recalls Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Sunday was also observed as World Youth Day 2018, which takes place at the diocesan level. Thousands of young people turned out for the event, including many who had taken part in the preceding days in an historic and unprecedented Pre-Synodal Meeting of Youth. The Meeting offered the young people the opportunity to make their voices heard ahead of October's Synod of Bishops, which is focusing on the theme of “Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment.”
